Frequently Asked Questions

Who Are Smile-Zone ?
Smile-Zone have been conducting teeth whitening for a number of years and are at the forefront of laser teeth whitening in the United Kingdom. During 2007 we invested a great amount of time and effort with the Authorities to ensure all our products met with current legislation. We are delighted to advise you that they do.
What does this mean to you ?
Firstly and most importantly your safety is paramount at all times to Smile-Zone. At no time will any harmful substances be placed in your mouth or on your teeth.
Secondly our products produce the best possible result achievable so much so we have a 100% money back guarantee should your teeth not be whiter after a treatment based on the Vita Shade guide (The standard used for teeth whitening)
Does It Work ?
One of the most common questions asked. The surface of the teeth contain millions of microscopic pores and over time, organic compounds such as food, drink, tobacco etc settle into these pores penetrating the enamel and stain/discolour the dentine. Almost all natural teeth respond to the process.
The system we use is the same system that was featured on Extreeme Makeover UK by Dr. Mervyn Druian B.D.S. (RAND) D.G.D.P. RCS of the London Cosmetic Dentistry Centre.
What training do Smile-Zone staff have ?
All our staff were trained on a 1:1 basis by Dr. Stephen McAtamney B.D.S.
Can Anyone Have Their Teeth Whitened ?
Patient must be aged 16 or over, satisfy a standard medical questionnaire and complete a consent form.
Can Teeth Whitening Damage My Teeth ?
Research carried out by the UK Department of Health found no incidence of adverse effects to teeth whitening gel.
Does It Work on Veneers, Crowns, Bridges or Fillings ?
The whitening gel can only penetrate natural teeth therefore it will not whiten veneers, crowns, bridges or fillings however it will bring them back to their original colour when fitted by your dentist.
Does It Hurt ?
Some sensitivity can occur during the process albeit this is common and is temporary. If a patient experiences sensitivity as a rule ie when eating ice cream or drinking a hot drink then they are likely to experience some temporary sensitivity during or just after the treatment finishes. All patients should use Sensodyne toothpaste prior to a teeth whitening treatment which will help mitigate any sensitivity as much as possible.
What Side Effects Are There ?
The only reported side effect is temporary sensitivity. The gel itself is non toxic and will do no harm both short or long term.
How Long Will The Results Last ?
This depends on the patient. The procedure will stay noticeably whiter for 12 to 18 months, however periodic touch ups usually every 6 to 12 months can be performed to keep the smile at its brightest. Each patients unique combination of age, diet, tooth structure and oral hygiene will ultimately influence how long the result will last.
